The German Phonomuseum presents a nearly complete history of the development of mechanical sound recording and reproduction from Edison's invention of the phonograph in 1877 to the present day. A small special exhibition showcases the "precursors" of phono technology with mechanical musical instruments (the flute clock, polyphonic, orchestrion, electric piano, etc.).
