Before the construction of the road to Chora Sfakion, the Imbros Gorge was the most important route from the north coast of Crete (Chania) to the province of Sfakia on the south coast of the island. Remains of the paved mule track can still be found today.

The Gorges extend over 8 km from Imbros going down or from Komitades going up, entrance fee to the gorges at 3€ in this October 2024 (keep your ticket because you will be asked for it at the exit). The beautiful part of the Gorges is located halfway along the route. So we decided to park at Komitades, and go up the Gorges for 4 km, part where the Gorges are the most beautiful because they are the narrowest point, then we went back down to our starting point (total round trip 8 km). If you decide to go up the 8 km or go down them entirely, you can go back up to your car by taxi.
To visit preferably in the morning, the light is beautiful and it is less hot.
