For the people of Tyrol, Andreas Hofer is still a national hero today, who is remembered every year on the day of his death, February 20th. Because in 1809 he successfully led the Tyrolean troops against the Bavarians and the French. In many places in Tyrol today monuments commemorate the freedom fighter.
