Saturday, March 5, 2016 Reggio Emilia remembers the massacre of Mario Baricchi and Fermo Angioletti, the eighteen-year-olds from Reggio who on February 25, 1915, together with other workers, rushed to the Ariosto theater to prevent a rally by Cesare Battisti in favor of Italy's entry into the war. The demonstration, which saw the participation of numerous people openly opposed to Italy's armed intervention, was bloodily repressed: after throwing a stone, in fact, the Royal Army opened fire, killing the two boys and wounding 13 demonstrators, including some 15-year-olds.
