Right at the shores of the Baltic Sea and within the Hamnparken in Karlshamm, you will find Karl-Oskar and Kristina. Both are the main characters from the novel The Emigrants written by William Morbergs.
The life-size bronce statue created in 1959 is overlooking the Baltic Sea in memory of the more than one million Swedes that fled from hunger and poverty between 1848 and 1930. While the male figure looks far beyond over the sea towards a better future, the female sadly over her shoulder, back towards the home they will never see again.
