The life-size bronce statue created in 1959 is overlooking the Baltic Sea in memory of the more than one million Swedes that fled from hunger and poverty between 1848 and 1930. While the male figure looks far beyond over the sea towards a better future, the female sadly over her shoulder, back towards the home they will never see again.
