The FFH area covers an area of 101 hectares. It lies within the city limits between the two districts. It is bisected by the Frankfurt-Mannheim railway line and crossed by a road link. The reason for the area being protected as an FFH area is the occurrence of the habitat type of "inland dunes with open grasslands". This includes in particular the eponymous dry sandy grasslands, which consist predominantly of silver grass meadows. These only cover a relatively small area, but are particularly valuable from a nature conservation perspective. The color interplay of grasses and meadow plants is impressive in the summer months.

One special plant species to note is the dwarf grass. Among the animal species, the blue-winged grasshopper should be mentioned, which is a special type of grasshopper. Butterflies typical of this habitat are the dark brown blue butterfly and the small fritillary.

The areas in question were originally used as arable land and for growing fruit trees. However, over the years they have become increasingly neglected. Rare communities of life and animal and plant species are in danger of disappearing. The current model for the FFH area is a richly structured cultural landscape, as it is the result of centuries of human intervention. This should be preserved in all its diversity, if possible.
