O Picouto is a small town in Galicia that, like many rural villages, has seen a drastic decrease in its population in recent decades, to the point of having almost no inhabitants. The main reason for this depopulation is the rural exodus that began in the mid-twentieth century, when many of its inhabitants moved to larger cities in search of better job opportunities, better educational and health services, and a more comfortable life.
