Urangan Pier stretches 868 metres out into the bay and is a remnant of a much longer pier built between 1913 and 1917 to load sugar, timber, and coal onto ships. It was closed to commercial use in 1985, and while 239 metres was later demolished, public outcry saved the rest, which was handed over to the council and progressively restored. It is one of the longest piers in Australia and stands today as a fantastic land-based fishing spot (famous for whiting) and an excellent vantage point for spotting humpback whales and dolphins.
