A short and relatively challenging hike with a breathtaking view of the Matanuska Glacier! A must on Route 1!

The hike starts below the AT&T mast. There is a gravel parking lot there. The barrier says no entry. If you find a phone number, just give AT&T a quick call and let them know that you want to do the hike up Lions Head - that's what I read in various hiking recommendations. (We didn't see a sign with a phone number and just went.)

The hike is very steep and at times quite muddy. Hiking poles can be very helpful. The climb is rewarded with a spectacular view of the huge Matanuska Glacier.

Due to the steepness, I would recommend planning 2-3 hours depending on your fitness level.
