Tips

  • THE ROAD IS PINK ( PINKI )

The mighty bascule bridge over the mouth of the estuary has risen high - depending on the tide's water level, the headroom below the bridge varies

The Este bascule bridge is a technical highlight. It is also a barrier to the Este.

The structure with the two large weights directly above the road is already impressive. Unfortunately, the bridge rarely opens. 😕

The bascule bridge is an eyecatcher - from afar.
A really great design and a great structure. All around the bridge is going on. Opposite there is a shipyard and left and right of the canal two viewpoints with perfect views of Blankenese (telephoto!).

After the storm surge had caused severe damage in 1962, the Estesperrwerk was built. The barrage with its bascule bridge is today the largest attraction in Cranz. Cranz offers the best conditions for trips to the Old Country and is also the starting point for day trips to the city of Hamburg. From the suburb of Blankenese the Elbe ferry goes to Cranz. By bus you can reach Finkenwerder and Altona.

Our plan was to translate Cranz by ferry to Blankenese. Unfortunately drove on Saturday 09.08.19 no ferry. So we had to drive to Finkenwerder on.

Special bascule bridge, worth a look (especially if you have to wait for the ferry anyway :)
