As a unit of local self-government, the City of Slunj was established in 1993, by dividing the former municipality of Slunj into 3 new territorial entities: the City of Slunj, the municipalities of Cetingrad and Rakovica. The city of Slunj today represents the urban center of the southeastern part of Karlovac County with a large number of central functions, and therefore the areas of the neighboring municipalities of Cetingrad and Rakovica are closely gravitating towards it.
