The complex is very well preserved.

There are guided tours of the castle.

The outside area of the castle, the main courtyard and the 45-meter-high keep can be visited in the summer months, and guided tours are held through the state rooms on the first floor. The so-called "Mirror Hall" on the first floor now serves as an outpost of the local registry office, the former farm building houses a small castle hotel, and the former castle stables and garden are rented out for celebrations.

Egg was first mentioned in 1103 as the seat of Thiemo de Ekke. An examination of wood from the castle tower in 2003 confirms that it is around 850-900 years old.
