This is the starting point for the winter road. The seven-kilometer-long Koli ice road is the longest official inland ice road in Europe. It provides a 51-kilometer shorter route between Koli and Lieksa, but only if conditions permit. The ice road is opened in the winter when the ice layer has reached a thickness of at least 40 cm and can safely support vehicles
