The Lim Channel is part of the 35 km long Lim Valley, which reaches almost to Pazin in central Istria. The channel itself is 12 km long, and on both sides it is flanked by steep hills that reach up to 200 meters in height.

Although often called a fjord, the Lim Channel is actually a submerged part of a karst valley. Long ago, the imposing bay was the valley through which the Pazinčica River flowed, flowing into the sea. The turbulent geological past has taken its course - the sea level rose and flooded the valley, completely changing the landscape.
