At 950 m above sea level, the Wasserkuppe is the highest mountain in the Rhön and also the highest elevation in Hesse. It is located in the district of Fulda with its summit in the Gersfeld area.The Fulda rises on the mountain, which is known nationwide as the "cradle of gliding"; another 30 streams have their source here.
