EC1 Łódź is a revitalized and expanded complex of a former combined heat and power plant, which has become the seat of a cultural and scientific institution.The first municipal power plant in Łódź, consisting of two blocks: EC1 East, launched in 1907, and EC1 West, added in the interwar period. After the war, the Łódź Power Plant was transformed into a combined heat and power plant and thus served the residents of Łódź until the beginning of the 21st century. In 2008, the revitalization of the historic building located in the New Center of Łódź began.
