The Roman Catholic parish church of Thaya stands on a terrace in the east of the street square.

The core of the Romanesque choir tower church with a massive defensive tower was built in the 12th century and was subsequently modified in a Gothic style. Renovations were carried out after destruction in the 15th century and after 1619. After a fire in 1718, it was restored by master mason Matthias Fölser. Further construction work was necessary in 1749/1750. Renovations were carried out in 1851 and from 1892 to 1897. Restorations took place in 1956/1961 and 1973/1974.

The parish was founded in the 12th century and first mentioned in documents in 1283.
