Once a flourishing Walser settlement, abandoned, dreamy, enchanting

As if it were a fantastic painting, the wonderful Bürstegg welcomes you in a bucolic landscape with the magic of times long thought to be gone. The small collection of two farmsteads and a small church is a rare charming ensemble of traditional Walser culture and was once the highest settlement in the country at 1716 meters. In 1835, the Walser plot between Gaisbach and Wangtobel, which had existed since 1453, still had 68 souls in 13 scattered homes. When the last residents, the Beiser family, emigrated towards the end of the 19th century, their shingled log building remained as a wonderful example of the old dwellings. Even more impressive in terms of architecture and atmosphere, today's Alpe, as a mighty farmstead, tells of former life, so close to heaven.
