The old church in Älvro is believed to date from the 16th century. The church was moved to its current location in 1638 and doubled in length. In 1739-1740 it was rebuilt into a cruciform church. In 1806 the outer walls were painted over with white plaster. The church is bordered by a bell tower, which was built in 1795.
