The 16.8 kilometers long, normal gauge local railway was opened in 1910 by the Bavarian State Railways. It ran from Obernburg-Elsenfeld station to Heimbuchenthal. The passenger and freight traffic on the upper part of the line was discontinued in 1968. Until the end of 1978 served a shunting locomotive to the station Eschau-Mönchberg customers, then the route was reduced. An old diesel locomotive in Heimbuchenthal reminds of this time. Mostly on the former railway line now runs a bike path.
