The Barnbruch nature reserve is virtually the "green giant" right outside the gates of Wolfsburg. It is located west of the city (between Wolfsburg-Fallersleben and Gifhorn) and is part of a huge, contiguous wetland network that also includes the Ilkerbruch. The core area covers approximately 1,200 hectares. It is a classic lowland moor and marsh landscape in the Aller glacial valley.
