Stresa is a holiday resort on Lake Maggiore. The most famous buildings include the Villa Pallavicino with its gardens and a zoo, and the Grand Hôtel des Îles Borromées, where the writer Hemingway once stayed. Boats leave on the lake shore towards the Borromean Islands with their palazzi, villas, a fishing port and the Della Bambola Museum. Mount Mottarone, enthroned above the lake, offers a toboggan run and botanical gardens.

Nice little walk directly on Lake Maggiore, plus a great town center with typical Italian alleys. Stresa should be included in a lake tour.
