    November - the month of the polar night in Sámi languages
    - Is the beginning of the dark season, when the light decreases considerably and nature and the landscape settle under a layer of snow.
    In December, the amount of light is at its lowest, but the aurora borealis illuminate the night sky. According to a Sámi belief, the northern lights could snap you if you whistled at them, so you had to watch them quietly and with respect.
    In Sámi languages, the word for aurora borealis comes from a word meaning the day/night twilight. The name of the Siberian aurora - a bird considered a "soul bird" and even a bird of happiness - is derived from the same word, and indeed the color of the Siberian aurora resembles that of the reddish sky of dawn.
