Location: East Attica, Greece
The name Garika is a name of the area and not a nickname of Panagia. The temple is located in a large enclosure, with tall pine trees and a high mantro wall. It is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin and although it is not a two-story temple, it also celebrates the Life-Giving Spring. During the days of the festivals, many people flock, food is shared (the traditional Korbani) and events are organized by the Municipality. It is a temple of the post-Byzantine years of the 18th century. Characteristic is the large stone belfry with 6 bells at the entrance to the enclosure. The additions of Early Christian sculpted members are also evident in the masonry. The small church belongs to the parish of Agios Georgios. It celebrates the Fifteenth of August, the day of the Dormition of the Virgin and the Life-Giving Spring. On both holidays there is a festival. The church belongs to the usual type of single-bay basilica, with a wooden, gabled tiled roof and dimensions of 7.95 x 11.00 m., without the apses. The church is built on the ruins of an early Christian church.
