Today it looks like a huge, quiet white sandy beach, but during World War II, there was a fear it could be used for a German landing, and over 3,000 mines were placed behind the beach, along with anti-tank obstacles and coastal defenses. Years later, in 1958, a storm washed the fishing boat Jean Stephen ashore here, and its crew had to be rescued in the middle of the night. A beautiful beach that hides much more history than meets the eye.
