A wooden barrel is used to store wine - the porous structure of the wooden barrel allows for minimal oxygen exchange and is primarily responsible for the maturation process. In addition, the color becomes more intense when aged in wooden barrels than in stainless steel barrels. In red wines, the tannins are also somewhat milder and the taste more complex.
The different wine barrels even have names, e.g. the barrique or a stander, a standing barrel.
Children often had to crawl through the door into the barrel to clean it of wine residue and tartar. Today, young visitors can learn a lot about winemaking in this area in a picture book inside this barrel.
