The ferry service between Meerbusch-Langst and Düsseldorf-Kaiserswerth, on which the Michaela II operates today, probably already existed in the Middle Ages. In the 1950s, a pure motor ferry was used for the first time, which was later adopted by the Schäfer family. Since then, the connection for professional and tourist traffic has been steadily expanded. The current ferry Michaela II has been in service since 1993 and can accommodate up to 27 cars. This amount was necessary at a rush hour of rush hour traffic.

Today, the Michaela II is fully loaded only on weekends in fine weather. The new A44 motorway bridge has reduced commuter traffic by 75%. Nonetheless, the Michaela II travels every day for students of the Kaiserswerther Gymnasium (Suitbertus-Gymnasium and Fliedner-Gymnasium), professionals, day trippers and connoisseurs of the unique Rhine landscape from Langst to Kaiserswerth and back again.

Every year in summer the ferry stop pauses and the Michaela II sets out for Düsseldorf's Old Town. There it is used as a funfair ferry, like the sister ship Maria-Franziska, between the river bank of the old town and the festival grounds of the biggest funfair on the Rhine as part of the shooting festival of the St. Sebastianus shooting club.

Wonderful bike paths along the Rhine. Nice feeling to translate with the ship.
