The Marian column was created by the artist Ludwig Baur (1904-1977), who settled in Telgte in 1936. It is a donation from the doctor Dr. Hugo Haar, a stone thank you for surviving the end of the war in Telgte.

The lantern-like top of the monument contains four mosaic pictures, including Telgte motifs and the coat of arms of Cardinal Clemens August Graf von Galen. The Marian column is a memorial against war and a symbol of peace.
