The cabin belongs to the DNT Oslo og Omegn organization, the Oslo and surrounding area branch of the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT).

DNT operates a network of hikers' cabins (called "turisthytter") throughout Norway, some of which are staffed and some of which are unmanned. The "Jørgenhytta" is one of these cabins. Its style, with its dark wooden facade and green-painted windows, is typical of many DNT cabins.
