The Finnish Nature Centre Haltila (haltia.com) organised a guided tour of a slash-and-burn forest clearing. The aim of the tour was a clearing with 1.6 hectares of renaturalised forest. The aim of targeted slash-and-burn forest clearing is to restore forests in order to preserve diversity.

The aim of the renaturation is to bring the structure of former commercial forests closer to the structure of a natural forest by adding missing features to the forest, such as rotten and burnt wood. The aim is also to make the age structure of the tree population and the tree species more diverse by increasing the proportion of deciduous trees. The renaturation also improves the living conditions of many rare and endangered forest species.
