This monument was erected in memory of Mademoiselle Lassaulx, who was fatally attacked on Friday, March 20, 1903, while returning from Verviers, after going to sell her butter and eggs and making some purchases. She succumbed to her injuries the next day. Ultimately, no perpetrator was formally identified. Five years later, another murder takes place in the city, Mrs. Ruwet suffers the same fate as her friend Mrs. Lassaulx. The investigation revealed absolutely nothing and mystery shrouded these unpunished crimes.
