The factory on Gubener Straße was built in 1870. With the arrival of Hänsel & Co. in 1908, it gained international attention. Oswald Hänsel developed a process for twisting horsehair into a thread, thus enabling the industrial production of fabrics. Due to its special properties, horsehair was used as an interlining to maintain the fit. In the 1930s, Hänsel was one of the few companies in Germany that managed everything from raw material processing to the finished fabric under its own roof. Hänsel had several locations in Forst, and its products were exported all over the world.
