Lake Sempach is a lake near Sursee in the Swiss canton of Lucerne. It has an area of 14.5 km ², its water level is at 504 m above sea level. M., it covers 0.66 km ³ and is at the deepest point 87 m deep. Its length is 7.5 km, the circumference 19.8 km and the average outflow 1.28 m³ / s.
In contrast to most Swiss lakes, large parts of the lake shore are not accessible to the public, but are closed off by fenced private properties. The bathing prohibition for the entire waterfront of Sempach dates back to the 1960s.
There are seven municipalities bordering Lake Sempach: Sursee, Sempach, Oberkirch, Nottwil, Eich, Schenkon and Neuenkirch. Altogether about 30'000 people live in these.historyThe Reuss glacier, which retreated towards the end of the Würme ice age, left several moraine around 12,000 years ago, including that of Mariazell, which dammed Lake Sempach at its northern end.
