The Desert Scenic Drive is a one-way, generally well-graded gravel loop that is open to cars, bikes, and hikers. This driving loop starts just a few hundred yards from the Carlsbad Caverns National Park Visitor Center and is a great way to explore the surface of the park. Although this road can be a little soft and sandy in spots, it's doable on a road bike or dedicated gravel bike that can take wide (35mm at least) tires. Tubeless is also recommended so that you can run lower tire pressures that enable you to better deal with the soft and sandy spots on this scenic, desert road.
