The Förmitz Dam, the Förmitz Reservoir or Förmitz Lake is a dam completed in 1977 on the southern edge of the municipality of Schwarzenbach an der Saale in the Upper Franconian district of Hof. It is named after the river of the same name, Förmitz, a right tributary of the "Saxon" Saale.

The dam serves to raise the low water level of the Saxon Saale. Water held back during periods of high flow (winter/spring) is added to the Saale during periods of low flow, so that a guaranteed minimum water discharge of approx. 1 m³/s is guaranteed at all times. The reason for this is that the main collector, which collects the wastewater from Münchberg to Hof, extracts more than 600 liters per second from the Saale. To a limited extent, the dam serves as flood protection and to generate electrical energy.

Here you can sit and relax with a view of the lake. The board also provides the most important information about the construction, function and current use of the dam, which is interesting to read.

The dam is a rockfill dam with a sealing core. The inner seal consists of a diaphragm wall made of earth concrete (clay concrete), which has a clay core on both sides and a support body made of rock and stone. The main reservoir has an area of 116 hectares and a storage volume of around 10 million cubic metres. The length and width of the reservoir are around 1.2 km. The main dam is 800 m long and 32.5 m high.
