As a section of the Erft-Lieser-Mosel hiking trail, the Lieserpfad runs along the river of the same name from Daun to Wittlich and further to the wine-growing town of Lieser. Our tour is not only geologically and historically attractive due to the Eifel volcanism and the medieval castles and ruins, but also includes technically challenging sections.

      Eifel: scenic mountain bike tour

The Lieserpfad is marked with a black wedge and a small "3" and takes us through the districts of Vulkaneifel and Bernkastel-Wittlich. We start at the Dauner Forum and head south towards the spa park. It goes steadily uphill until just behind the Gemündener Maar (1), then we can continue cycling on the left side of the Lieser on flat terrain. We pass the Üdersdorfer Mühle and the town of Trittscheid on our left. Continuing along the Lieser, we reach the Geißenburg ruins after a while. Here we have to weigh things up: a visit to the partially reconstructed walls is worthwhile, but it also costs time and energy.
So we continue our journey through the Manderscheid state forest and cross the Lieser where the Pellenbach flows into it. On the right side of the Lieser, it initially goes slightly uphill. Above the Lieser we continue towards Manderscheid with its medieval castle
