Baumburg Monastery is a former Augustinian Canons' monastery in Altenmarkt an der Alz (Traunstein district), which was dissolved in the course of secularization in 1803. Today Baumburg is also a Catholic deanery that includes the parishes of northern Chiemgau.

The baroque redesign of the monastery's formerly Gothic buildings began around 1600 with a renovation of the medieval church. The tower tops were given their characteristic onion domes. The provosts Michael Doegger (r. 1688–1706) and Patricius Stöttner (r. 1707–1737) arranged for the monastery buildings to be remodeled and rebuilt. On the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the consecration, the master builder Franz Alois Mayr from Trostberg built the current church of St. Margareta in the Rococo style with filigree stucco and frescoes from 1755.

In 1803, the monastery was closed as part of the secularization by the Bavarian state. By 1812, the monastery and farm buildings as well as the monastery's own land were auctioned off. From then on, the monastery church served as the parish church of Altenmarkt an der Alz. Many of the monastery's buildings were demolished. Since 1910, one wing of the complex has served as a rectory. Another wing served for a long time as a convalescent home for the English ladies. Today, a private seminar hotel is housed there, which is often used by choirs and orchestras. The Baumburg monastery brewery, founded in 1612, is also privately owned today.
