Although Palant Castle was only first mentioned in documents in 1456, historians see the property as the starting point for the creation of Weisweiler, as the complex probably dates back to an old Franconian royal estate.
In 1323, Reinhard von Palant was first mentioned in a document as a vassal of the von Cuyck family.

House Palant, located directly on the Aachen-Cologne motorway on the outskirts of the Weisweiler district, presumably emerged from a Franconian estate. The complex was built around 1600 in the style of the Dutch Renaissance as a square complex with four corner towers and bridges to the north and south. After severe destruction by an earthquake in 1755, the von Hatzfeld family restored the main castle and built a new outer castle. The three-winged outer bailey from the 18th century, which has been preserved to this day, is a two-story quarry stone building with hipped roofs and a bluestone facade structure. In the middle of the northern front is the large gate building with a high mansard roof.

The Palant House, also known as Palant Castle, was the ancestral seat of the influential von Palant family in the Weisweiler district of Eschweiler.
