Short stretch of gravel, about 200m-300m, the rest is asphalt or concrete. No problem going up and down with a gravel bike or mountain bike. Racers with 30 or 28 should also be fine, but probably not with an aero racer. But it is certainly a good alternative to the main pass road. Up in the forest the surface is asphalt with grit and a few holes, just watch where you are going. Absolutely traffic-free and beautiful scenery.

Cycling

It's much nicer to hike up the mountain to the Brünig Pass than to take the main road. At the top, before the pass, there was a tented lunch with cake and beer. ;.)
