Worth seeing building, in the same style as the Detmold residential palace. This one is privately run, but a sign on the gate allows you to enter the grounds

Worth seeing facility. The inner courtyard is open to the public, the castle itself is private and cannot be visited.

Barntrup Castle, also known as "Kerssenbrock Castle", was built in the middle of the 16th century by Anna von Canstein. She was married to the mercenary leader Franz von Kerssenbrock, who died shortly after the wedding. Construction work began in 1577 and the archway, which has been preserved to this day, was completed in the same year. The manor house was built between 1584 and 1588 by master builder Eberhard Wilkening as a small castle with two floors and three corner towers. It was the first castle in the Weser region to be decorated with bossed stones. This architectural style later developed into a feature of the Weser Renaissance. At the end of the 19th century, the interior of the castle was rebuilt, and the sandstone slabs of the roof were replaced with red tiles. The castle gained a certain fame through the 1952 film "Holidays from Me".

The property is privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside.
