Until the French Revolution, the Abbey of Saint-Martin-aux-Jumeaux stood on the site of the Amiens courthouse. The abbey buildings, declared a national asset, were assigned a judicial function but were deemed unsuitable and were demolished to make way for the current courthouse.
The Amiens courthouse was built in two work campaigns: from 1864 to 1868 and from 1874 to 1880, under the direction of the architects Jean Herbault and Natalis Daullé, and then by Jacques Hittorff who designed the entrance with its colonnade.
