The Alpine newt is a medium-sized species with a flattened head, short legs and a laterally compressed tail. The surface of the skin is smooth in the aquatic phase, while in the terrestrial phase it appears silky and granular. During the breeding season, the male has a low vertebral crest that passes seamlessly into a caudal crest. The upper parts of the male range from light blue to bluish-grey, and sometimes from dark blue to blackish.

If you park in Malga Venegia, the daily rate is higher than in the first parking area. Also remember to pay at Pian dei Casoni, not at the parking meter however but at the person sitting next to a small wooden house.
