Once upon a time, in the 18th century, a local Polish gentleman married a Ukrainian woman. Once, the two of them were driving through Kitaygorod on a phaeton. Suddenly, either the horses ran away, or the wheel of the carriage came off, and the crew ended up on the edge of the Ternav canyon, and the passengers miraculously survived. The man, happy with his salvation, vowed to build a church in this place - and his wife persuaded him to build a church nearby. And so it happened. True, the modern Orthodox church near the church has nothing to do with the legend: the old shrine was demolished, and the modern one was built not so long ago.
