    The museum is a former resettlers' farm that looks back on a very special history. It provides an insight into the working and living environment of German refugees who dared to make a new start in Linstow at the end of the war. The majority of them originally came from Volhynia, a historical region in what is now northwestern Ukraine. Their ancestors had settled there as farmers and craftsmen after the abolition of serfdom by Tsar Alexander II in the 1860s.

    The municipality began reconstructing the farmhouse, which was due to be demolished, into an open-air museum in 1990. The museum was opened on August 6, 1993. The museum is run by the Linstow local history association.
