According to the state of Saxony-Anhalt, the plant at the outlet structure of the dam will generate around 13.6 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity per year in the future and can therefore cover the energy needs of around 4,000 households in the region. The Mulde reservoir is a former open-cast mining pit that was flooded in the mid-1970s when the Mulde was relocated. With an area of around 6.3 square kilometers and around 135 million cubic meters of reservoir water, it is the third largest body of water in the country.
