At the end of the First World War, when Greek soldiers occupied Smyrna, the Turkish War of Independence began. On 19 May 1919 with the landing of Atatürk in Samsun the reconquest of Anatolia began, the war lasted a total of 3 years and ended on 11 October 1922.
