At 2,296 meters, the neo-Gothic pilgrimage church stands out in bright white with a rust-red roof amidst the deep green meadows and gray mountains.
Its history goes back far before that of the refuge. In 1700, the crucifix of the Black Lord, which was found in the same year in the crypt of Latzfons, stood up there as a weather cross.About forty years later, thanks to donations from many pilgrims, a small church was built for the cross that stood in the open air.About a hundred years later, this became the neo-Gothic building that still stands today in the Ritzlar mountains.Three small bells from the Grasmair workshop in Brixen ring every Sunday for church services.
