The works for an iron bridge began in 1888 and ended in 1891, the construction being located right in the area where the old bridges on Beica and Olt join. The project was supervised, this time, by a Romanian engineer - Nicolae Davidescu.

The bridge over Olt is the second attempt to implement iron architecture, presented for the first time at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1899. The construction supervised by the engineer Nicolae Davidescu was carried out after the success of the one in Cernavodă by Anghel Saligny.
