I still find it hard to believe that this limestone valley was once beneath a tropical sea. The limestone is full of fossils of sea creatures that once lived on this reef. Winnats pass is full of caves and mine shafts for those brave enough to explore.

Winnats Pass (or Winnats, as shown on some Ordnance Survey maps) is a hill pass and limestone gorge in the Peak District of Derbyshire, England. The name is a corruption of 'wind gates' due to the swirling winds through the pass.

This is a spectacular climb or descent on the pass, little known Suicide cave is worth a peak on the way up.
