    The monument is dedicated to the memory of doctor and anthropologist Dominikas (Dominink) Bukonts (Bukant) (1873-1919). After the death of D. Bukont (Bukant), the society of his revival was established with the efforts of the people closest to him. By order of the Society in 1939 Juozas Žagrakalis' studio "Dr. Dominikas Bukontas". Funds were collected to build the monument according to the project of sculptor Vincas Grybos. Unfortunately, the death of the sculptor, the war, the occupation disrupted the implementation of this activity. The idea was revived and implemented in 1993. Dominiks (Dominiks) Bukonts (Bukantas) in 1893. graduated from Šiauliai Gymnasium. in 1893 entered St. Petersburg University, where he studied chemistry. Dropped out of studies in 1897. 1900 graduated from Kharkiv University, Faculty of Medicine. 1901-1903 worked as a doctor in Dusets, Alūksta (now Latvia). Here he actively joined social activities, was one of the organizers of Lithuanian evenings. At the beginning of the Russo-Japanese War, he was mobilized on 09/07/1904 and served in the Amur District (Nikolsk-Usurinsk, Iman and Harbin). in 1906 January 14 went to reserve and settled in Zarasai. Here he managed a hospital, fought against the typhus epidemic, and established a gymnasium. He participated in the activities of cultural societies, collected folklore, works of folk art, wrote down the dialect material of the Viekšniei area. 1907-1909 anthropologically studied 1000 Lithuanians from Zarasai area. The study "From the Lithuanian anthropology of the Ežerėnai region", published in 1910. in the scientific publication "Lituvių tauta". This is one of the first and largest works on Lithuanian head shape, eye and hair color. in 1919 January 19 died of typhus.
